Around The World With Food in 80 Minutes

OneHolyoke CDC, a nonprofit housing organization, is hosting Around the
World with Food in 80 minutes on April 26 from 5-7 p.m., a food tasting event of Holyoke’s
diverse restaurants in preparation for the National Player’s performance of Around the World in
80 Days, presented by ?OneHolyoke CDC, MIFA Victory Theatre and Holyoke High School
Performing & Media Arts Academy at the William R Peck School.? The event is free for
everyone and will be held at our new Flats Community Building located at 43 Canal St, Holyoke,
MA. Restaurants such as Los Pecadores Restaurant, Holyoke Hummus, and many others will
represent diverse communities and cuisines like Puerto Rico, the Middle East, China, the
Dominican Republic, Italy, Greece, Ireland, Japan, & Thailand.
OneHolyoke CDC is involved with a variety of literacy initiatives in the Holyoke community,
including bringing the National Players to Holyoke once a year. Last year, the National Players
performed The Great Gatsby at Wistiarahurst Museum. Around the World with Food is meant to
raise awareness of this year’s performance of Around the World in 80 Days on May 3, 2019,
while showcasing Holyoke’s restaurants. Tickets to the play will be available for purchase at the
food tasting.
About the play: The time: 1872. The claim: The world can be traveled in 80 days. The wager:
20,000 pounds. Determined to win, Phileas Fogg sets off with a rigid itinerary and bewildered
new valet in tow—only to discover the unpredictable just might be the most rewarding of all.
Join the National Players as they travel by boat, train, and elephant in Jules Verne’s epic
adventure. Full of daring rescues, brash duels, and unexpected romance, Around the World in 80
Days is a trip you won’t soon forget. The National Players will also hold a special performance
at Holyoke High School of The Crucible and provide a master class and acting workshop for
students.
OneHolyoke is dedicated to affordable housing for Holyoke’s low-income and moderate-income
families. OneHolyoke builds new homes, improves and manages a portfolio of multi-family
buildings and, in partnership with the city, offers loan and grant opportunities to property owners
that need to improve their properties. This is guided by their mission statement: “Every resident
of Holyoke should live in a dignified home and a safe, attractive neighborhood. Everything
OneHolyoke CDC does is intended to help fulfill that need.”
