Mel King Institute2017 Creative Placemaking Workshop Series

Brought to you by MACDC in partnership with MASSCreative and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC)

What is creative placemaking? Who does it? Who does it benefit? When is it appropriate? Where does it occur? How can creative placemaking be used as a tool for public safety or neighborhood revitalization? What is the interplay between creative placemaking and gentrification?

If these questions interest you, attend one of three upcoming creative placemaking workshops!

Creative placemaking projects and initiatives brings arts, culture, and creativity into government and community-led planning and community development efforts. Creative placemaking efforts can originate in the community, in government, and be led by community developers, municipal staff, artists, arts organizations, and organizers alike. Done well, it can help planning and community development processes be more locally informed, human-centric, and holistic.

Audience: Community development corporation staff, municipal staff, artists

Workshop leaders: MAPC arts and culture and community engagement staff

Each workshop will take place from 9:00 – 4:00 pm and will include light breakfast refreshments, lunch, interactive activities, and facilitated discussion. Host location details will be finalized shortly. Each workshop will offer similar content, with a regional focus.
