Rotary Club & One Holyoke CDC

Saturday October 6, 2018

Celebrate Holyoke, the annual summer event took place this fall. Despite the delay, the turn out resulted in a very prominent Holyoke presence, as we all showed up to celebrate the heritage we are proud to bolster. Vendors of all likes were present, also a rich mix of great music and artists showed up to display and sell their work. One Holyoke CDC was there in full altruistic form as volunteers helped sell hot dogs and hamburgers for the philanthropist group the Rotary Club. Teaming together, and donating proceeds to achieve the Rotary Clubs goals.

Drink and Draw

Raymour and Flanigan Outlet alongside of One Holyoke CDC and City Sports Bar hosted a beautiful fund-raiser to benefit OneHolyoke CDC’s efforts in community development. Accompanying us, we had the privilege of having an amazing instructor. The esteemed painter, known for her “Mills” painting series, also long time teacher at Magnet Middle School and Professor at UMass Lora Barrett. Guiding us through every line, as the bartenders from City Sports Bar kept our wine glasses full. Raffle prizes were won, also offering the guest free food from the mini buffet: the lovely benefit was an event that was not to be missed. We here at OneHolyoke CDC are extremely thankful to Raymour and Flanigan Outlet, and City Sports Bar, for sponsoring and hosting this event. Also extending a special thank you to the wonderful Instructor Lora Barrett.

J.J. Barea Visits Holyoke

Dallas Maverick guard J.J. Barea visits Holyoke upon receiving the 2017-2018 J. Walter Kennedy Award. Showing love and support to our community, giving inspiration to hurricane Maria survivors. Bringing along his coach Rick Carlisle. Barea also received the humanitarian award by the Basketball Hall of Fame for his part in providing hurricane relief to the island of Puerto Rico.

Barea spoke to the kids of Holyoke High, emphasizing how important it is to say in school. Inviting our future generation to be more involved in issues regarding not only our country but most importantly our community. Making a clear statement on how it’s not only about being a great person at a job or skill, we have to be great people to each other in our communities
